The most popular choice, and the most flexible. Hundreds of colour and pattern combinations, and if a block ever gets damaged or stained you lift that one block and replace it rather than the whole drive. Permeable options are available if drainage is tight.
Resin bound
A smooth, seamless finish with no loose stones. Resin bound is permeable, so water drains straight through it, which usually solves the drainage rules without digging a soakaway. It's laid over a solid base, so an existing concrete or tarmac drive in good condition can often be used.
Tarmac
Hard wearing, quick to lay and usually the best value on bigger driveways. It gives you one clean, continuous surface with nothing to shift or sink. Tarmac isn't permeable, so drainage gets designed in from the start.
Concrete
Tough, long lasting and low maintenance. It can be left plain or pattern imprinted for a decorative finish that looks like paving without the joints. Like tarmac, it needs drainage planned in.

Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?
Usually not. If your front garden driveway is over 5 square metres, the surface either has to be permeable, like resin bound or permeable block paving, or the water has to drain to a soakaway or border within your own boundary. Do that and you don't need planning permission. Send the water straight onto the road and you do. We design the drainage in either way, so it's covered.
Do I need a dropped kerb?
Only if there isn't one already, or the one you've got is too narrow for the new drive. Dropped kerbs are applied for through Surrey County Council as the highway authority, and the work has to be done to their spec. If you need one, we'll tell you at the survey and handle the application.
How long does a driveway take?
Most driveways take around 3 to 5 days. Resin over a sound existing base can be quicker. Larger drives, or ones that need drainage work, extra excavation or a dropped kerb, take longer. You'll get the timescale in writing with your quote.
Which driveway surface is best?
It depends on what you want from it. Block paving for the widest choice of looks and easy repairs. Resin bound for a smooth, modern finish that drains through itself. Tarmac for value on a big drive. Concrete for a tough, low maintenance surface that can be imprinted for a decorative finish. We'll go through the options on site once we've seen the space and the drainage.
